According to the law in Georgia, work permits are no longer acceptable for minors at the age of 16 and older.
However, minors aged 14 and 15 who reside in Georgia must obtain a work permit before they are allowed to start a job they have been employed to do. The process of securing a work permit in Georgia is officially done online.
G.A. Work Permit Application Process
The following are the steps that minors who live in Georgia need to follow in order to obtain a work permit.
The first step is to fill out a three-part form online. As a minor, you will need to fill a form that is split into three parts which include a section A, B, and C, which should be fill by you, your employer and issuing officer.
You will need to fill section A with correct information such as your social security number, date of birth, name, parent’s name, address, etc. Then click “submit.”
You will receive a Minor Security Key (MSK) almost immediately after submitting it. This Minor security key is usually ten characters long. The next step is for the minor is to print the “Work Permit Data Sheet” and then take it to the future employer.
Minor students who are interested in working should take the following steps:
- The minor will complete Section A. Then click “minor”. Detailed instructions are provided online.
- They will be ask to enter their social security number or Parent Alien Certification number, as well as their date of birth.
- Then minor will then click “submit”.
- Also, they will then be ask additional questions to include: their name, their parent’s name, their address, etc.
- They will then click “submit” and will receive a Minor Security Key (MSK) which is ten characters long.
- Then they should print the “Work Permit Data Sheet” and bring it to the possible employer.

- Once the employer completes their portion and gives the printed data sheet with parts A and B completed to the minor, the minor will bring the data sheet to the issuing officer.
- Once the minor brings the data sheet with parts A and B completed to the issuing officer, the issuing officer can click here to complete their portion.
- The issuing officer will choose “To Minor Initiated Permits”, and then enter the birthdate and social security number of the minor.
- Issuing officer will choose the appropriate date for the permit to be certified and will go over all information to know if is correct.
- The issuing officer will print the “Completed Work Permit” and give a copy to the minor that the minor can then give to the employer.
Employer Responsibilities in Completing the Work Permit Process
After the employer receives the datasheet, they are to fill their portion, which is section B of the data sheet online, then they are to give a printed copy of both completed parts to you, the minor.
You will then take the datasheet to an issuing officer. Each school usually has an issuing officer, but the superintendent of schools can also issue a work permit.
Once you bring the datasheet with parts A and B completed to the issuing officer, the issuing officer will then review the authenticity of the data sheet submitted to them and will complete the process online.
The issuing officer will print the completed Work Permit and give a copy to the minor that the minor can then give to the employer. The employer must keep the work permit on file. The online permit is only available to be view by the issuing officer for 30 days online.
